I applied for rent help with my local council. I have just been 8nformed that as I'm of working age! I don't qualify. They have referred me to you, to seek UCS.

They are correct, you can no longer make a new claim for housing benefit unless you're either living in supported or temporary housing.
To claim for help with any rent you will need to claim Universal Credit. As this is a means tested benefit whether you qualify will depend on your circumstances. If you live with a partner you claim as a couple and your joint circumstances will be taken into consideration. If you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming.
Full details about UC is here. https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit

Claiming UC will end any other means tested you currently receive.

Welcome to the community @paulmcbŕearty473 :)

I can see that poppy123456 and calcotti have already given you some advice on this. Has that cleared it up for you a little? I know the benefits system can be quite confusing.
