I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice with regards to a question regarding PIP. I sent all the required information to DWP on 27th Feb and have had a text message this morning saying we may need you to attend a consultation with a health proffessional before we make our decision. Firstly they have been very quick to acknowledge receipt of forms etc and is it standard to say I may need to see a health professional before a decision has been made? Thanks

It's a standard text message but most people have assessments which are mostly by telephone. Some are face to face at an assessment centre and video call. Paper based assessments are rare but possible.

Yes. The vast majority of claims will either need a telephone, video or paper-based assessment before a decision can be made. You can also have a paper-based but this is extremely rare.0

Thanks for your quick replies. Generally how long does it take to firstly have your assessment and secondly a decision? Thanks0

Some wait just a few weeks for the assessment but other wait months. Once the assessment is completed and the assessment report is written it will be returned to DWP. From that a decision can take up to 12 weeks. (assuming this is a first time claim, not a review of an existing claim)
