Hello, my name is Simi! I'm a 20-year-old permanent wheelchair-user looking to make some friends :)

As I said, my name is Simi. I am a Disabled, Black, and queer 20-year-old. I've been a permanent wheelchair-user since I was 14 and a very proud one! I love myself completely just the way that I am and wouldn't change for the world. That's why the Disability pride flag is my profile picture. My Disability also affects my wrists and my fingers so I type, draw, and write with a pen in my mouth. I'm currently typing this out with a pen in my mouth. I'm a blogger and Disability activist. I specifically speak out against ableism. What do you do?

Anyway, I've just moved to England from the Netherlands although I was born here so I'd love to make some new friends. I don't really have any yet. I'm also here to share the joy of Disability culture, heritage, history, and pride and to start some discussions about it because it's something I'd love to discuss with other Disabled people. I'll probably write a discussion post about it this weekend. For now, introduce yourself and let's be friends!

    Hello @_Simi_

Welcome to the community! :) I can't wait to see you interact in our Coffee Lounge. It's where we have general debates, get to know each other and play games.

I'd love to see some of your drawings! We have a thread called KaleidoScope: Our own gallery for members' art work, crafts and photographs where lots of community members shares their creations :)

Hello and welcome from me too @_Simi_ it's great to have you join the community :) How are you finding things?

I'm really looking forward to reading your post on the joy of disability culture, as and when you write it!

Have you ever seen the documentary Crip Camp on Netflix? It's a really interesting look at the history of disability rights in America. I didn't know a great deal about it being from the UK, but so glad I do now. I recommend it if you haven't watched before.
