My daughter is 18 on her final year of college finishing her last exam in June this year.

when do I notify UC / Child benefit ?

    You need to notify them when her course ends.

    is that for Uc only or child benefit?

    Both of them. Any child related payments or benefits will stop when she leaves education, as she stops being a dependant child and changes to a non dependant adult.

    I thought child benefit was paid till end of august for some reason.

    Do I notify them on the last day exactly or do you do it before hand ?

    Chikd benefit isn't an area I have much experience in, you are correct.

    UC don't deal with future changes so it needs to be reported once she's left. CB I've no idea.

    When approved education or training ends

    When your child leaves approved education or training, payments will stop at the end of February, 31 May, 31 August or 30 November (whichever comes first).

    How do you let UC know ? a journal message or is this a report a change (I can't see which option there covers this)

    Just incase anyone is searcing UC want to know the date she has her last lesson, an CB will stop on 31st August as advised above.

    At this point my next question one they have finished at college do they claim UC or JSA till they find a job ?

    When would they apply ? last day of college or after August as the CB is still active ?

    She would need to claim UC. She won't be able to do so until 1st September as she'll be classed as a student (not eligible for UC) until then.

    Her course ends mid next month. (Not sure about CB) yet got to call them. Gave up after 90 mins wait.

    I received a journal note from UC asking me to inform them on the date after last day at college.

    I was planning to advise her to claim the day after her course ends as that's when her UC child element stops. Google suggests CB is paid till end of august but I haven't been able to speak with them. If it is I doubt she can claim UC before that ?

    I think once their course is done last day of scheduled time tabled lesson they are not a student any more ? Unless I have missed something ?
