I am Dad and sole carer for my 40 yo son who has special needs and learning difficulties, I am 79 and not in good health,, Fibromyalgia, CFS , osteoarthritis kidney failure etc. we are approaching the time for my son to go into Shared Living. He is terrified.

He suffers from depression, getting very angry and out of control sometimes, I am coming to the stage where I cannot look after him. I a m also terrified for his future.

I know that when I pass away there is no one to look after him.

Sorry for the long rant, just needs saying.

Michael

Hi @Duncan33 and welcome to the community! Thank you for being so open and sharing your situation. I can completely empathise with how you must be feeling, especially with supporting your son all his life. This decision must be incredibly difficult, but it's important that you're evaluating these changing circumstances.

Have you any thoughts about some additional support options and how you see that looking? It might be a good idea to get an NHS care needs assessment so they can review your needs and work with you to put appropriate care in place. I've added a link to the website here - Getting a care needs assessment - Social care and support guide - NHS

    Best wishes,
