Part One- An Introduction😴🛌
Part Two - Practical Sleep Strategies for Parents and Carers🌙😴
As our final post for sleep week, we are going to look at signposting and services available to help families caring for disabled children.
Specialist Help with Sleep
- Cerebra has free sleep service and offer individual support for parents of disabled children with sleep challenges
- Some NHS trusts have sleep specialists and you can ask your GP or paediatrician for a referral
- Occupational therapists can provide strategies and assess sensory needs at bedtime
Social Care Support
- Request a Disabled Children’s Social Care Assessment through your local council;
- Ask for respite care and short breaks for carers, including overnight care
- Request a carer's assessment for yourself to access further support for yourself and your family.
Financial Support
- Apply for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) as night-time care needs count!
- If you're already receiving DLA, you may also be entitled to carer's allowance and direct payments
I hope these posts for sleep week have been helpful for you and your families!
Please let me know what else you would like to see on the family side of the community😄
