Following on from our Network CP meeting in June, we wanted to provide some support for our AAC users.

Lucy met Dominic, a 1Voice trustee at a networking event . She wanted to highlight the brilliant work they do.

1Voice is a volunteer, and user led organisation that supports adults, children, and their families who use AAC. They have 5 regional hubs to organise local meetups and activities.. These are: North Lancashire and Cumbria, Yorkshire and North East, North West, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, and South West.

If you want to get involved visit their website: 1Voice

AAC - Alternative and Augmentative Communication as used by children and adults with little or no speech. It can be hi tech, low tech or no tech or a mix of all 3. It does not include BSL as used by Deaf people, however if someone has other disabilities and use some sign for communication that would be an element of their AAC systems.

Just for those who may not be familiar with the term AAC.

Jenny, long time member of 1 Voice, mother of 27 year old soon to be Uni graduate with CP who uses hi tec, low tec and no tech, depending on the situation
