DWP Contact

Does anyone know if the department for work and pensions (dwp) have email addresses for claimants' to contact them?

I've tried calling their contact numbers:

employment support allowance (ESA)…on hold and waiting for 12 minutes to speak to an agent…

personal independence payment…on hold and waiting for 25 minutes to speak to an agent…

Why don't they have email addresses?

How are you supposed to update them about a change in circumstance if they won't pick up the call?

And why do you have to contact each benefit separately?

Unfortunately as Mijuka said, there aren't any central email addresses to contact PIP or ESA. And we've heard from a few people that there are very long wait times on the phones at the moment. It's not good at all, but the best thing to do is to keep trying. You might have more luck calling first thing in the morning.

Hope you get through soon, it's so frustrating when you're kept on hold!

i'm new to dealing with dwp on behalf of a learning disability person and their elderly parent.

who has time to wait an extended period for a call handler?

Long waits are standard, as Rosie advised calling when they open can mean a shorter wait.

My method is to use a mobile, dial, get through to the hold music, put phone on loudspeaker, place the phone close at hand and get on with something else while I wait for an answer.

They will have an email system that they will use internally and externally, but for DWP business. If you know somebody working there you could "crack" their email address easy enough. Pointless post really, as stated call when the phone lines open.

    Pointless?

Thanks for your responses, i have a pointless update…

I contacted the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) about its policies. Their online form went to DWP ministerial correspondence team.

    My Questions:

    • Why is it so hard to contact the department for work and pensions (dwp) on the phone?
    • Wait times to contact the dwp by phone are excessive at 25mins+ and holding.
    • Why does the dwp NOT have contactable email address for claimants to more easily communicate, with the different departments of the dwp (AND HAVE A DIGITAL RECORD OF ANY CONTACT)?

Their reply: I am afraid my team cannot help with this as we have no access to personal data.

Please resubmit your enquiry giving your full name, address and date of birth to – correspondence@dwp .gov.uk

I am sure colleagues there will be able to assist.

BTW Co-pilot said email has evolved over more than five decades, starting from simple messaging systems in the 1960s to becoming a fundamental form of communication today. 1991: The first email was sent from space by astronauts on the Space Shuttle Columbia. 2025: folks can't contact DWP via email - where are we outer space and beyond?

It would make sense to have an email service @tractor but I don't see it happening anytime soon. They really should consider that not everyone can use a phone, especially when they deal with people with disabilities.

Will you update us if you get a reply?

    Their auto-response:

Thank you for contacting the Operations Correspondence team.

Your email has been sent to the appropriate team for their action.

Please do not send e-mails marked Private to this inbox.

If your correspondence does not relate to DWP you will not receive a response.

    Kind Regards

Hopefully they'll send it to a team that will actually respond this time!

It is often considered better to call the DWP as soon as their phone lines open.

I rang them yesterday morning twice around 8:45 and my calls were both picked up in less than 3 minutes.

I appreciate this being raised, as somebody who is absolutely non verbal with strangers and a huge amount of people I even know if anything happened to my mum who's my appointee I would have a very large problem, not just with the DWP but any company or department who makes life difficult for those in the same boat. socialising F2F or on the phone makes me seriously unwell and unpredictable I only can interact via online/text such as this forum so trying to ascertain if an email was available was a very helpful and worthwhile action.

thank you for the post, appreciated.

Sorry, you have misread my post. I was referring to my post as being pointless....

Hope you get the response from the DWP you requested!
