Deed Poll issues

A couple of days ago the government rejected my attempt to change my name by deed poll! I've been considering it for a while now and this just seemed the correct moment.
Absurdly, their objection is that (for no justifiable reason) numbers can't be included. They also argue that names must be "pronounceable".

I've always pronounced the name GX03RZR like "Brian". The deed poll would cost about £20 which is considerably cheaper than buying a private car reg would be.
Does anyone please have any advice or similar experience?

Naming yourself like a car registration isn't really pronounceable or would work on alot of systems. While I hate to agree with the government I think they are reasonable and correct to not allow this.

It's a DAEWOO actually, I have just used a car checker site.....

@Littlefatfriend you can do checks on that regulation online, do you know this?

Why do you want to name yourself like a car registration? Surely that would make life challenging

It's similar enough to my reg to make the point thanks Chris75_ and Trevor_PIP. I wouldn't choose to put my reg on a public forum so I changed it slightly in my post. I suspected someone might investigate it, and I was correct!

Thanks Rubin16. As I wrote, I've always pronounced it just like Brian. The names of the cats here are spelled "A205CRT" and "MA09BPY". They're pronounced "****wit" and "Cluster****", respectively. I believe that should be a choice the cats (and I) should be allowed to make. It's their/my name after all.

There are now many private companies offering the deed poll service Trevor_PIP, I remain confident that I'll be able to appeal this decision. It's my name (and those of the cats here). The vet (for example) understands both how their names are spelled and pronounced. They're comfortable with that. The government needs to catch up with the 20th century, let alone this one!

Unfortunately Tony60 they'd accept Jaguar but I've already established they'll make the same absurd quibble about the surname XKR. Which is pronounced like "Bob" in case you're curious. That's a callback to the Blackadder episode "Bells", which stars a lady named "Bob". As she was allowed to bend the rules of tradition in Elizabethan England (1558-1603), I believe I should be now.

Change has to begin somewhere and this could change the world forever. It may eventually solve everything. And that will be nice.

    😺

I want to be called Raymond Luxury Yacht, pronounced Throatwobbler Mangrove. ( Monty Python sketch).

I'm so confused, how are you solving things or making them better. People can't even pronounce those names or what they mean to you. It would make like alot harder if we had people with names like that. Surely they have to be pronounceable by people.

    Please pardon me Rubin16,

I'm not hoping to solve or make anything better.

I'm just aiming to save the cost of a private reg for my car. They're often quite expensive.

One of my former partners was named Tasleem. That's a name of Pakistani origin and they spell it very differently. The "T" at the start of her name isn't a hard T (Timber, Train...) or a soft T (Thus, That...). It's a consonant we don't use in English, somewhere between both those sounds. She and I were the only people I heard pronounce her name correctly in the four years we lived together. That's not uncommon in our increasingly multicultural and multiethnic world.

I'm not suggesting anyone else should follow my lead. It's coincidence that I've always lead fashion, society, and all the groups I've ever been involved with. That's the choice other people have made. What they name themselves is only their business, as it should be.

I noted above that I've always pronounced "GX03RZR" like "Brian". The association of symbols and sounds is done in all sorts of different ways around the world. I'm opening myself to that world and welcoming it with open arms.

Call me GX03RZR, or whatever else you choose. I don't mind.

    Thanks

    😺

Also, you dont need to pay for a deed poll. Just use freedeepoll.org or similar sites and print the on parchment paper. And also don't enroll it. It's just as valid as enrolled polls, just without the public record.

    Thanks Stellar

An unenrolled deed poll (like all the free ones online) will often not be accepted abroad. That and the public record aspect are important me, I enjoy traveling and speak four languages adequately.

Like Sinatra, for me it's all or nothing at all.

I'm working out how to frame my appeal.

Dear boy, remember when I suggested you should post more? 🤣

    Events Chris, events!

    🤣🤣🤣

In two week's time I'll be repeatedly stabbed with a syringe containing Botox and I hope to get more active in "real life".

For now it's cold and dark and I've got more spare time than usual.

I only posted this to add a bit of humour to proceedings and I hope it has, my thanks to all involved.

Please however, in order to help me begin adjusting, could you call me GX03RZR?

    😹

    Sorry Chris75_ I didn't watch that programme.

However I'm led to believe that Kryten rebelled against authority and struggled to break his programming. They aren't problems I have.

I've always succeeded in evading authority and the interweb is full of useful information if one looks in the correct places.

I'm doing the best I may and that's all I can.

But really, it's pronounced like Brian.

    😇

Sorry if I offended you, GX03RZR! That also sounds like a Japanese super bike btw.

    Thanks Chris.

No offence at all and thankyou for pronouncing my name correctly!

I could think of words your name rhymes with, but they might be related to urine. We've all got enough of that.

    Sometimes coincidence is a killer.

    🤣
