I AM NOT OKAY - Spotlight - on BBC2 at 9pm tonight
Mothers reveal to Tara Mills their struggles to cope with sons whose complex needs can lead to distress and aggressive outbursts, often leaving themselves and other family members injured. They tell Tara they feel judged and blamed by the system that is meant to protect them, and feel there is no safety net. Extraordinary, raw personal videos.
Another chance to see the programme first broadcast in 2024 and see what happened next.

I watched it. There's a pretty good chance my grandson has autism. The parents were fantastic! Pity the same couldn't be said of the people who were supposed to be helping them

#@What The,
I have not seen the programme but as a mother of (now an adult ADHD son), I can recall having a number of occasions when he would become very aggressive and threatening, which is difficult to manage at the time and there is very little support from professionals after the incidents. Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services stop at sixteen with no where to go to fill the gap until the young person is eighteen years, when they have to refer themselves, which at that age very few do as they do not recognise or perceive their own difficulties. There seems to be no system and support is 'hard' to find.
