I’m fuming

Hi everyone, it’s my first time here and I just need to vent. When they migrated me from the old style benefits over to UC, we were promised we would not loose out. What they didn’t say was you’re not loosing out “yet”. From beginning of last year until now my payments have dropped by nearly £50 a month! That is a lot of money for me, especially with all the costs going up. I had to turn my gas off completely just to save some pennies.

Then this month with the change of benefits, the overpaid me by £400 and I’m sure they would have continued if I hadn’t spoken up. I made 2 journal entries over 2 weeks and no one got back to me until today. Not a thank you for letting them know or anything, but only a letter stating that I’ve been overpaid and have to pay them back. Good manners would go a long way! But hey a good deed ….. And DWP makes you feel like the guilty one for being honest. Thanks for letting me vent.

Hi @Obibuns, Totally understandable post name and it's always good to vent! Hopefully it helped a little to get it out. That's incredibly frustrating about the overpayment and being left in the lurch, especially since you did the right thing by contacting them as soon as you noticed it. And I agree, just a little acknowledgement and thank you goes a long way.

I've seen a lot of people confused and upset about the pains of this transition situation so you're not alone. I'm so sorry you've had to turn your gas off. Can I make a suggestion that might help you out a little? It might be worth contacting our energy support team as they might be able to offer some support with energy costs. Happened to me this month over paid by that amount. They don't answer journal messages it seems. I also contacted them about it.
