Received PIP payment without assessment?

Hello everyone,

I thought I would ask for some advice. Today I had received over £3000 into my bank account and had no idea where it came from. I rang my bank and they said it was from the DWP. My only thought was PIP. I then rang PIP and they confirmed I have been awarded higher rate daily living part and higher rate mobility part. My only issues with all of this which I had told the lady on the phone was that I had missed the assesment which was to be done over the phone with Capita? Is it possible to be awarded PIP without an assesment? The payment was also made before I had ever received a decision letter? Has somebody made a mistake - the lady on the phone assured  me the award letter was sent a couple days ago.  I've heard and know people that fought hard for PIP, so is this a massive blunder or can I spent the money?

Hi and welcome to the community 

You can be awarded without assessment you will have most likely had z paper based assessment 

They make a decision based on the form you sent and any other evidence you submitted 

Most people get back pay before they get the decision letter which yog should get in next couple of weeks
