Hi can anyone advise if I can claim carers allowance.My son has just been awarded middle rate dla.but I can't work because of long term illness and I'm in the support group on income based esa

    You can claim CA. 
    If all of your ESA is income based then you will be paid CA separately but then be deducted from your ESA. 
    If any of the ESA is contribution based then you will not be paid CA.
    While claiming CA the income based ESA calculation will have a carer premium added. The overall increase will be £42.75/week.
    Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Rules may be different in other parts of UK.
