Ultima Online by any chance @Biblioklept?
And I'm getting set to pre order Spiderman 2. Looks like I have a few days off after release to play it too.1 -
It was indeed!! Did you play?? I spent waaayyyy too many hours buried in that game but have some very fond memories and the people were just amazing too. I enjoy WoW (and some others) but it's never quite had the same vibe!
Spiderman 2 actually makes me want to get a Playstation, damn them!!!1 -
I was a big Ultima fan! I reluctantly got rid of all of my cloth maps when I moved a few years back. Played WoW since vanilla, but tend to just dip in when there's a new expansion these days, it just feels too different now.
Spiderman 2 looks to be outstanding. If it's half as good as Miles Morales, I'll be a happy nerd.
It'll be out on PC too, but not for a fair while yet.0 -
@66Mustang I still have old CDs from when I was a kid but I haven't bought a CD for a PC game since... 2014? Maybe even earlier.
Everything is done via various platforms now. Steam being the most popular, but you also have Origins for EA, GOG.com is another. Epic has their own store. Ubisoft does too but I don't know anyone who actually uses it because it's awful.
Exclusives is less of a thing too. Nearly all games are on Steam, Epic and GOG also have a very wide selection. EA tried for a while to make their games only available on their store Origin but that didn't really work out.
Epic has tried to bring exclusivity back, to varying success/detriment. It's not something PC gamers like at all.1 -

I tried WoW many years ago but barely made it past the loading screen each time. I finally gave it a second chance after @66mustang mentioned it here and I've been enjoying it. But I've found it's harder to get involved with people and find a community, the cliques are long formed and people are either busy grinding or just don't have time for someone new.Albus_Scope said:Spiderman 2 looks to be outstanding. I have, at least 40 CDs now, and I haven't owned a CD drive in 7 years.1

ooh are you sure? I looked online and everywhere says PS5 exclusive. I have to keep reminding myself how wasteful it'll be to get a PS5 just to play one game
As for WoW, I found getting in a nice guild really makes or breaks that game. The first time I tried it I hated it, but then I tried again, found a guild to play with and had a lovely time! But they've made the game so easy to do things in PuGs these days, so it's less about community, which is a bit pants.0 -
I have an Xbox Series X.
Costs about £30 a year for the online gaming subscription, but you only need that for multiplayer games. There are other benefits of it, but I don't use them myself.
There is also an Xbox Series S which is cheaper and physically smaller but comes without a disc drive so all games have to be downloaded.
I don't know anything about modern Playstations unfortunately. Last one I owned was a PS2 Slim up to about 2007.
The main issue with modern consoles is the online updates are massive. When you first get a new game, it takes about a day to download (even if you have the disc) and install all the updates.
Then every month or two there seems to be another update which can be around 40GB (no that's not a typo!) so takes hours to download even with my current 50MB broadband. You can't play the game while it's downloading either. So it's very annoying when you switch the console on and it says '40GB update, please wait'. As someone who needs routine, that can really throw my day off! I don't understand why it can't download in the background like Windows Updates do.

I can't get on World of Warcraft at the moment because I updated my operating system and it's not compatible.0

Thank you @Albus_Scope and @THE_DUDE that's much appreciated.2

But I'm very thankful for games that allow pre-loads before the game is officially released.2 -
@Jimm_Scope Mac OS, I know I can downgrade the operating system but I don't like the hassle and potential affect on all my stuff so I am happy to just wait for an update0

Albus_Scope said:The huge updates are the bane of my life. Usually one of the first things I do in the morning is turn on my PC to check for any updates. At least that way, they may be downloaded and installed by the time I've finished work! Though there's a new broadband provider in the area that we're switching to in a few weeks, that offers ridiculous speeds for the same price as our current 50mb.
Xbox updates are the reason I switched to 50MB broadband when budget allowed. I don't stream any TV and live alone so could get away with slower BB for daily tasks previously.0 -
@OverlyAnxious yeah I've found most current gen consoles to be pretty power hungry. Another reason I like my PC, I can put it in eco mode and save a fair bit on my bills each month.1

Hi Everyone - I enjoy playing PS4 but it's coming to the end of its life as it seems some games are no longer being made for PS4.
I like playing Call of Duty and have played all the games since launch (some games better than others!). I also play F1 2020 and it's really good as you can talk to your engineer through your controller which adds an extra level of realism. I recently had a month of EA play for 79p and played the game Jedi Fallen Order, which was well worth the 79 pay for a month.
I have the dilemma of whether to go towards Xbox or PlayStation for my next console. I've always had PlayStation so not sure whether I'd get on with Xbox but it seems to be better value and the game pass seems to be very good compared to PlayStation PSN Plus.
As I have a big birthday coming up in March I will hopefully be getting enough money to buy a new console so I've got plenty of time to decide.
Has anybody got any advice as to which console is better buy PlayStation 5 or Xbox S/X?
Does anybody else play call of duty who would like to play as a group at some point?
kind regards Andrew 🎮1 -
Hey @andrewkuk sorry I was having a few days off and totally missed your comment!
As I've said before, which console is very much up to personal preference, both have their pros and cons. But I've been a Playstation fanboy for many years now.
I loved Fallen Order, I'm a big Star Wars fan, so it was great to be swinging that lightsaber in a game again.
Alas I'm not a CoD player, I tend to play on my PC, but I am lefthanded, so my setup isn't great for fast paced FPS games. WASD isnt very friendly if you use the keyboard with your right hand.1 -
Thanks for your reply. I really would prefer a PS5 but the cost of the subscription and getting a new headset ect is close to £500. The Xbox S is cheaper and the game pass is available with my EE phone sim plan for £10 per month. My brother also has a Xbox S and says it's great value for money for next generation console. I've got to start saving and wait until my birthday so maybe the prices might come down.
Being mainly bed bound currently it's hard to pass the time.
Kind regards Andrew0 -
Ah of course, I hope you're recovering well?
I found when I was stuck in bed, slower paced games like Stellaris were great for passing the time. I'd lose hours to strategy games.1
