I'm going to sound very ignorant but can someone explain it to me? I don't really get what's going on and all the extra bits such as Hamas and Gaza and so on. I've tried googling but get more confused and everything is very one-sided or biased.

I don't know who is the aggressors or the victims. Well the victims are all the innocent lives on both sides I imagine but yeah, what's going on??

I know many shun it but I would suggest trying Wikipedia. They pride themselves on neutrality, I still find many of their articles have a little bias in them but it is better than the like you say one-sided arguments from most outlets

It's a horrible situation that goes back decades. It's a very complex and emotionally-charged subject, you likely won't find a very good explanation in a single forum thread let alone a single comment.

I would follow Mustang's advice and read wikipedia articles on the subject, and their sources if you'd like to go further into the subject.

In a 'nutshell', after the Second World War, the Jewish People were given land by the Allies to form the state of Israel. The Palestine People state that the disputed land belongs to them, they have been fighting for the land ever since, the Jewish People believe it belongs to them and won't give it up, they've been building settlements on it ever since. Hamas is a third party funded by Iran to do their 'bidding', Iran is wanting to destroy Israel.

So sad for everyone involved :( I've seen and read about some horrific things happening and it's scary how quick violence can tipple over.

Israel was about to sign a deal with Saudi Arabia which would have been a big step forward towards peace, but Hamas / Iran has put paid to that happening.

Putin is just a mess, way back in the early 2000's the Duma passed an Act where the Russian state could go after (kill) 'dissidents' abroad, that was the red flag to his intentions and character Russia, others had worked so hard to bring Russia into the 'Global Family'. The World just let him get on with it.

Sad state of affairs for all caught up in it.  Both sides.

My personal opinion is that the UK should not be flying one flag without the other.
Palestinians have suffered terribly too over the years, but right now what is right or wrong in our own eyes doesn't condone terror and death on anyone regardless of faith or Nationality

My Grand-Father was in Palestine after the war and remembered The Sergeant's Affair and zionist Irgun hate with what Soldiers from Ireland days must feel now.

May peace come quick, without too many more loses of innocent life.  Sadly I feel as if the West will let Israel do as it wants.  Not Anti-Semitism ... anti big country using it's military might against a small nation

One thing that must be remembered, is that the common people must be separated from the actions of their leaders. If you are to direct complaints at anyone do it to the leaders of the belligerents, not the common people. Especially not the common people who don't even live there, like we've seen with attacks on Israeli/Jewish and Palestinian/Muslim establishments around the world.
