On Thursday most of us will be electing either councillors, mayors or PCC, if you have a vote please use it if you can, people gave their lives to defend our democracy we owe it to them to use our vote.
2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡

I think you have a good point @woodbine in general that it's respectful towards those who protected our right to vote, not just soldiers either, if you are female that goes for the suffragettes and similar people as well
However my Dad, as an ex-copper, does refuse to vote for the police and crime commissioner because regardless of ones individual politics he is opposed to the idea of politicising what always was and should be a politically neutral organisation -
Politics aside, I think the role of PCC is a positive one.
I remember 10 years ago when my daughter was 16 and drugged and assaulted. The police never turned up for the meeting they arranged. One email and a Chief Inspector rang up within 2 hours apologising for the distress and spelling out the written reprimand going on the officers record. She forgot
Thankfully this time they found the perpetrator Bad news for them as besides the short prison sentence, she was the physio of the local football team ... and very highly loved and protected by them -
Ours is just for the county mayor thing and I have never heard of any of them. If it was local elections of MP's I would be voting.

I voted this morning, so glad I was out of hospital so I could go and vote. Knew exactly who I was voting for too.

Just done mine quite a few people voting there when I was in

One question I have is. Why do they use pencils? wouldn't be pens be better so noone can change your vote. I always think people can manipulate them with pencils and change/erase them later.

Voter fraud is actually very, very low in the UK! Think of the thousands upon thousands of people who volunteer to help make sure it all happens. Regular people volunteering keeps it's integrity.They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with

I was thinking about the whole process today, we have voted by post for 14 years now because in 2010 we were out of the country for the general election, but I do think that not voting should be an offence.2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡

One councillor missed out on a seat by 5 votes. That really goes to show how important voting can be.
It is of course a personal choice, but I do suggest people use their votes if they feel comfortable doing so.Albus (he/him)

I want to start by saying that I don't actually have an opinion either way on this topic, but to hash it out a little.
There are pros and cons to mandatory voting. Of course it feels, wrong, you are making someone turn up to a polling station. Something they may not want to do. They don't have to vote for anyone, they can spoil their ballot or there could be a "none of the above" option. But there is some level of, disagreement, many feel to making people turn up to the polling station.
But, then some argue that there are many things we make people do as obligations citizens must do. They must come to court summons, they must do jury duty, they must pay taxes. These are legal obligations we accept as citizens. Some argue that taking part in the democratic process that decides how our country is run should be among these citizen obligations.
As said, I don't really have an opinion either way and can see the points of both sides.They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with
