Hi Albus. I don't know what to do. My Niece has been stuck in hospital since November 2024 because she had her leg removed, but they won't let her home as her property is not adapted. What can she do? Her mental health is getting bad now too, she just want's to be home with her family

I'm so sorry to hear that @CherChef I'm unsure of what she can do I'm afraid, this isn't something I've dealt with before. For home adaptations, she'll need to speak to her local council so they can perform an assessment. This may take time though.

I understand this is a very difficult time for you all, but the hospital wouldn't keep her in if they didnt feel she needed to still be in there. Is it possible to have her staying with you for a while? They may allow discharge if they know she's safe with you and in a loving environment?

Hi Albus, I live too far from her and she needs to be with her family, this is causing her to go lower into depression. She has threatened to take her life, I have informed the ward of this and they are watching her.

Hi @CherChef and welcome to the community. I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. That must be really difficult for all involved. Please keep us informed on your nieces recovery. Hopefully the hospital will put together a care package that supports both her physical and mental health needs.

    Please take care of yourself.

    Best wishes,
