Confirmation I'm deaf finally

I had a ent appointment and hearing test I'm kinda pleased and also kind of distress about fact they have said I've lost most hearing in right ear, awaiting operation for tube removal, which will then lead to no hearing aid apparently on that side, and left side moderate hearing loss and hearing aid

I already have a great number of conditions that affect my daily life and I'm struggling to accept yet more things

I feel worried we take our hearing for granted and boomf it's gone so quickly, with a already difficult life it's just one more struggle to cope with can anyone recommend any charitable organisations that help deaf people with benefits and that kinda thing

Hello,

I too have finally been diagnosed as deaf. I have next to no hearing in my left ear and very little in my right ear. I am totally reliant on my hearing aids.

I am a full time carer for my partner who has a neurological disease and is fully reliant on me for all care. I myself have fibro and osteoarthritis, life can be so tough.

The only organisation I have found helpful are the Sensory Impairment Team who are part of my local county council. Perhaps you could contact them? ? As I struggle with the phone I was able to email them.

I'm with you , I finally got my diagnosis last October and have profound hearing loss , I was given hearing aids the bud type , but today I am going for moulds for a different type .

I still struggle to hear people speak and need to be pretty close to hear them ,I was also diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea which i have read is also related to hearing loss , It is a struggle but once you know what the issue is you kind of accept and try to carry on best you can .

I was fine with the hearing loss until I had a near miss with bike and car as i don't hear them approaching , now I am constantly looking behind me , and so is my husband who is also my carer .

My hearing will get worse , I know a bit of sign language and I learn by signing to songs , it makes it fun .

I struggle so much every day. I too have had issues with vehicles. Throw into the mix that my partner's speech is severely affected by his disease.... he can't speak properly and I can't hear him it makes for interesting conversation!!! What frustrates me the most is when you tell people that you are hearing impaired and they then speak to you like you are stupid!!

That is kind of you to say that. Deafness does not mean stupid. It is a disability, it does make life harder for those of us who are hearing impaired. I was able to get a disabled bus pass with help from the Sensory Impairment Team, this has helped me so much as I cannot hear what the driver says. Does anyone else find that their hearing aids unfortunately pick up traffic noise to the extent you struggle to understand conversation even more than usual??

Like I'm finally not stupid! I don't know why but that's how I felt just another thing to try get my head round I'm scared of losing my hearing totally also daft maybe xx if I'm in a busy place I miss so much of a conversation and people have got mad with me like I'm ignoring them

You most definitely are not stupid!! I too have felt the same for most of my life, I have lost count of the times I have been accused of ignoring someone when I didn't hear them speak to me. Never feel that you are stupid, even if people try to make you feel that way.
