Hi, my name is VaniC!

Hello All..
I am looking for a support group for parents with children with Cerebral Palsy (CP). My son is 14 years old on the severe spectrum.
I have never reached out to anyone or joined a support group. I live in Northwood, London.

Hi @VaniC and a warm welcome to the community from me😀
I had an explore on your local offer and I found a couple of things that I hope will be helpful.SEND Family Support seem to have regular support groups/activities/events for parents of disabled children and there is actually a virtual support group tonight at 7.30pm
I also found Hillingdon Parent Carers Forum and it is always worth liking them on facebook as usually these are where any local support groups/activities/events etc are posted first
We also have a wonderful CP network here on the community who I will tag now @SaraC_Scope @Richard_Scope @Lucy_Scope who provide specialist information and support to people with CP or/and their families☺️
Hope this was helpful, please reach out if you would more information or support!0 -
Hi @VaniC
I am running a Parents' Support Group but in Leeds unfortunately.
Is there anything in particular that you need help with?
I would recommend CP Teens, they are brilliant at providing social opportunities for children and young people with CP.
I look forward to hearing from you 😊
Best wishes,
Lucy

Hi Lucy
Thank you for your reply. I am looking for parents in similar situations as myself. Just looking for someone who can relate and share experiences with. It doesn't have to be face to face. Can be through group chats.
Many thanks.

Hi @VaniC
This is a great group on Facebook for families and carers of children with cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy UK It's a space to ask questions and connect with other parents or carers.

Hi Sarah,
Unfortunately, I am not on social media, so I wouldn't have access to this.
Is there any other way, I can reach out to other support groups?

Hi @VaniC
I've checked your area and @Mary_Scope has already identified the groups that are active for families.
We do run the CP Network at Scope. This is a community of people with cerebral palsy or have lived experience of cerebral palsy. We host Zoom sessions on the second Wednesday of each month from 6pm-7pm and discuss issues around CP and share experiences. You are welcome to join this Network. However it's not specifically aimed at families.
Kind Regards.
