Refused college place due to EHCP

Hi my son has been refused a college place due to his EHCP, he has Autism, is not a bad lad, just struggles emotionally and that's only if someone was to bully him. I'm in contact with SEN at the college and even she said he is capable of going to the college, he has his heart set on mechanics, is very knowledgeable in the subject and wants that as his career.
The lady at the college said if his care plan was to be reviewed and altered he would get in but no one wants to do anything, he's had 3 case workers in the matter of a couple of months, it's a nightmare getting hold of them, I just need to know what I can do next.

Hi @sc1986117 Welcome to the Community. I am sorry you are having such a difficult time trying to get a college to accept your son.
IPSEA might be able to help you.
Take care.

I’ve insisted our local authority name our local college on my daughters EHCP. They agreed.
The college said they couldn’t meet need but I’m confident my daughter can cope. There’s certain wording in her EHCP that’s put the college off (self harm risk). But she has never had any problems in school. She does go to specialist provision. She’s going to do very well in her exams and she wishes to study A levels.
Might be worth contacting your LA and asking if they can go ahead and name the college.
Best of luck. I know how stressful it is x

When a Local Authority (LA) names a specific college on an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan, it means that the college is legally obligated to admit and provide the education and support outlined in the EHCP. This happens after the LA has consulted with the college, considered their response, and determined that the college is the appropriate placement for the young person.
here you go I’ve copied and pasted some extra information x0 -
Thank you, very stressful, I just feel everyone letting my son down,
Thanks again lovely

Hi @sc1986117 and a warm welcome to the community😀
I see Bluebell and Bexter have already given you some good information and advice so I won't add much more today but here is some additional information on changing a named school on an EHCP that I hope will be helpful.
You can also ask for an early review of an EHC plan which be beneficial especially if the annual review isn't for a while and they're fairly confident that your son will be able to attend the college once its been amended
Please reach back out if you would like anymore information or support 😊2 -
Ask the head of send department to help you.. they are above the plan co's at the LA.. you need them to amend the EHCP.. he is not impacting the education of other students.. The college needs to be named on the EHCP because he wants to go only there and nowhere else. .. we are having similar problem.. was accepted for a place at the college given a conditional offer… but once they reviewed the EHCP they withdrew the offer of a place.. we had to ask the plan co to amended the EHCP to reflect the actual support our child needs now .. as there was far too many interventions and these were not needed.. we applied for the EHCP over a year ago.. all the reports are out of date now and the EHCP doesn't reflect the small amount of support our child needs now.

It now has transpired that a lot of false information has been sent over to the college from the school, I'm in contact with liaise and the case worker will hopefully get on top of it.
Thanks to everyone
