DLA decision to payment, timescale?
Hi all,
I have a 10yo (W) & a 5yo (A) both boys… W has been diagnosed/medicated/receiving DLA for 3/4 years now, and I seem to remember getting the back payment before even the explanation letter!
For A we have been waiting since forms went back in 13/08 last yr. Since we hit the 20wk mark I’ve called DLA twice & (yay!) a decision was made in our favour on 03/01/25.. I’ve been told it will back date to July 3rd (the weds after I first contacted them) which is amazing… but when am I likely to see any of the money? He follows a (self imposed) restricted diet which has dominated our lives financially for so long it would be amazing to have some freedom again to take him/them out again. Thanks in advance x

Usually money owed is in your bank before you receive the letter. From the date payment is made a BACS payment takes 3-5 working days to go into your bank.

Hi sorry to impose I'm also new to dla I phoned on 3/10/24 for the forms scan date 25/10/24 does the timescale for decision run from the day I rang or the day they were scanned. If it's from the date I've phoned it's nearing 15 weeks should I phone? I did receive a letter stating sorry about the delay but so confused by it all. Happy new year everyone ☺️

The day you rang but timescales are only a guide and everyone's case will be different. 15 weeks isn't that long and you need to take into consideration Xmas and New year closing days.

Hi @Carocat44
It's great news that your son DLA claim has been approved and that it will be backdated to July 3rd!
I see Poppy has answered your question so hopefully it won't be long until you receive the back payment and you're able to make some lovely new memories taking the children out again!
