Hi we currently dont claim universal credit due to being over threshold.

When doing a benefit checker if our daughter qualifies for DLA we will receive a payment each month. Does this get backed when we make a new claim due to DLA delay . Thanks

Hi @0054ko5 - I'll tag @Mary_Scope as she'll likely know the answer, thank you, Mary.

'Contact' also has a lot of info about a child's DLA: https://contact.org.uk/help-for-families/information-advice-services/benefits-financial-help/disability-living-allowance/

    Their helpline is 0808 808 3555 (Monday-Friday, 9.30am-5pm).

Thank you for the tag @chiarieds

    Hi @0054ko5

DLA is normally paid from the date the claim is received by the DWP so if you called them to request the DLA form then the date you called them counts as the date you started the claim. So for example, if you called them in March but don't hear a decision until October then you will be backdated to March.

Here is more information on DLA Information for Parents and Carers which i hope will be helpful!☺️

@Mary_Scope it was more the universal credit side.

We can’t claim it at the moment due to my partners earnings.

When I do a benefit check if my daughter is successful we qualify for the disability element.

It would be a new universal claim. We can’t start the claim now as we are waiting for decision from DLA.
Due to their delay would our new universal claim be back dated. Thanks

Thank you for the clarification @0054ko5

I'm not 100% sure and wouldn't want to advise incorrectly. I think your best bet for the correct answer would either be the Contact helpline which Chiariads has given above or the Scope helpline on 0808 800 3333. Sorry I couldn't give you a solid answer!
