Does claiming carers allowance affect your own PIP
My grandson,12 has just been awarded DLA, higher rate of care, (autism). A leaflet enclosed said may be able to claim Carers Allowance. My DIL who would be claiming is on PIP, (took a tribunal hearing). Worried that if she puts in a claim for Carers Allowance they will want to 'review' / stop her PIP. The care she provides is emotional, supervisory and supportive, it is not physical. So we know that just because she provides him with additional care it doesn't mean she can cook dinner, do the laundry (hubby does all that). But it took so long to get PIP, we don't want the review any earlier. So has anyone with PIP claimed carers? What was your experience? thanks in advance

I get PIP and am Carer for one of my sons. Similar to your DIL, I can't do anything physical but can provide supervision, encouragement, prompting and sorting finances.

Thank you, I'm guessing it didn't prompt a review of your PIP as you didn't say that it did.

Obviously you can claim carers allowance while being a PIP claimant. There are other members that claim PIP and Carers Allowance as they care for a family member. I doubt it will trigger a PIP review and it should not either. As long as the care provided does not contradict what the PIP was awarded for.

Hi @dragon60
Yes you can claim PIP and carers allowance, one shouldn't interact with the other and many people do claim both as long as like what Trevor said above, it doesn't contract what the PIP was awarded for 😊0 -
Carers allowance does not affect PIP. It may affect UC or ESA though.
