Habit more than anything, but I do like having time to myself before the world gets active. When I was a teenager I'd love staying up to the wee hours like 3-4am just because how still and quiet the world is. The world seems nicer without the hustle and bustle

That's very early @Biblioklept! I tend to wake up that time, especially in the summer months, and generally get up about 8am ish too :)

I am more of a morning person I'd say!

It depends if I have to go out that day, them I'm up early. Today I woke up at 6am then went back to sleep and woke up at 7am, then back up about 8. If I have a lay in then it's about 9ish.  I'm not a morning person and I don't miss getting up at 5am for work

My body wakes me up early too, but my mind ignores it. I’m a night owl and I get at least ten hours sleep! It’s partly due to depression, I just make the day as short as possible. My meds don’t help. Once I’m up I’m okay, not depressed. 🤔

I find the transition of actually getting up really mentally draining. But I struggle with all types of transition. Such as if I'm going out somewhere, the idea of getting ready, sorting stuff I need to bring, the journey and all the stages of getting there so daunting it can put me off doing it. But once I'm actually there I'm happy, until I remember I have to reverse all those stages to get home again.

Sorry you have depression @leeCal, it's a horrible beast.
