Hi, my name is LisaV! Had a text saying a decision has been made, any ideas what it means?

Hi All,

Please can someone help?! I have been told on the phone that a decision has been made for my PIP claim, on the 4/12/24! However i have not received any texts since 29/11/24 when they said they have no made a decision?! Does this mean the decision is one of a rejection?!
The other question is, if it is a good outcome how soon after the decision had been made do people receive their payment?!

Assuming this is a first time claim if awarded money usually goes into your bank before you receive the decision letter. It's paid by BACS payment which takes 3-5 working days.

Letters from DWP can take up to 2 weeks to arrive. Once you know what the decision is if you're not happy you can request the Mandatory Reconsideration as the first step to appeal.

judging by that then. I an guessing this had been declined. The decision was made on the 4th and i have heard nothing 🙈

I got a text last Thursday saying they hadn’t made a decision, then yesterday morning i got a text saying been awarded , I rang yesterday they told me SDL rate and then today I rang and was told back pay amount and when my next payment is due and back pay has been issued and due in bank 17/18th he said it states on the letter 18th but because I’m with Monzo I should get it 17th 4pm

I just don’t know why i have been receiving texts and the last one of ‘no decision has been made’ 29/11/24, i rang up to ask for a copy of my OHA and the lady said ‘yes i can now send it out as you have had a decision’ I replied I didn’t know a decision had been made, she then said it had been made on 4/12/24 but she couldn’t tell me the decision over the phone, case workers have been told they are not allowed anymore to reduce call, i should receive a letter in 7-10 days!

My question is why haven’t i received a text to say a decision has been made?? I am now convinced i have been rejected because of the fact i have had no text to tell me a decision had been made and no text to say i have been awarded. I have seen loads of post saying this is because its been rejected! I am so confused and so stressed. I know i have next week to wait as it has only been 8 working days. But seen loads of post saying people are paid 3-5days after a decision has been made which should have been the start of last week (9th) as that is 3-4 days after the decision had been made but then seen that it is actually after the letter which is then this week, however people tend to get a payment 1/2 days before a letter so that still isn’t 3-5 days after a decision! I am so stressed and this is all i can think of! Please can you help and i so sorry for the long post! I definitely think it has been rejected and just don’t know how to feel!

Not everyone receives a text if there's an award, even if they've received texts previously throughout the claim. Some call centre staff will tell you what the decision is and some won't.

I've also known people be told that a decision has been made when it actually hadn't been.

There's really no other advice I can give other than to try ringing them again tomorrow to ask what that decision was.

Once you know what the decision is if you're not happy you can challenge it by requesting the MR, which should be put in writing.

Did you receive a copy of the assessment report? I see you requested that during that phone call.

Thank you so much for this message. You have definitely relaxed me. Its such a stressful process. No not yet. This is why i rang up, as i was told i had to ask for it roughly 4weeks after the assessment to get it. That should come in the next couple of weeks.

You’re welcome. For future reference you can request the report as soon as it’s returned, you do not need to wait 4 weeks.

Update: I have been rejected. The information on the letter is not correct at all, and it states this has come from the OHA report, if this is the case then the person that completed my assessment has lied! How is that allowed! I am awaiting the report because i am so confused to how the information in the refusal letter, is different to what was said on the day!

When they write the report it’s their opinion based on everything you wrote in the form, any additional evidence you sent and what you said during the assessment. It’s not for them to write what you said word for word.

When requesting the MR you should put that in writing stating where and why you think you should have scored those points. Please do not ring to request it.

If you didn’t include a couple of real world incidents of exactly what happened the last time you attempted each descriptor that applies to you then you should do that now.

When you receive the report, it’s fine to mention a couple of obvious errors but then put it to one side and forget about it. Concentrating wholly on that report will not be helpful.

You have 1 month from the date of the decision to request the MR. If you are late doing this then you must give a reason you didn’t request it within the first month. You actually have 13 months to challenge it.

The most likely outcome of the MR will be the decision doesn’t change. There’s more chance at Tribunal stage, providing you either appear in person or have a telephone/video hearing.

Hi, thanks. I don’t think i have the energy for this. It is so disappointing. I think it is shocking that you can request a MA but the outcome is unlikely to change, i don’t see the point in offering it and causing all the stress for nothing! I think i am just going to leave it, the stress this has caused it not good for me, and then trying to battle knowing the outcome will likely not change is not worth it, I don’t think i can mentally deal with this. I am grateful for the advice on here. Maybe i will re-apply one day!

Tribunal hearings have a much higher success rate.

DWP also sometimes make a pre hearing offer directly to the claimant.

I know how difficult these things are, but it can absolutely be worth it once you get past the Mandatory Reconsideration stage.

I agree it’s stressful but it’s always better to challenge the decision rather than try applying again sometime in the future. Doing so using the same evidence you just used could likely see another refusal.

The letter i received today is completely the opposite to what i told the lady in my assessment. I have no idea how i explained that i cannot do something yet the letter says i said i can! That is not the truth! I am waiting to see what my report says to try and make sense of where the information came from! I just feel extremely stressed! X

Sorry about your result @LisaV, that's really disappointing. You won't be the first to say that the report hasn't reflected what you said in the assessment.

If you do decide to go forward with an appeal, you wouldn't be alone. It can be a really stressful process but our members are very helpful if you have questions about it.

I hope your report comes through soon so you can get some clarity.

my partner got one these text 2 days ago and today he got a text saying he had been awarded. I did tell him about this post and most seem

to get awarded but don’t take it as a given . Nicely surprised he was today .

Hi Lisa, I have just received a letter saying I am not eligible for Pip. When I read the decision document it was as if the assessor was talking to someone else not me!
she hasn’t told them anything I have said about my illness. It’s so stressful!

It's very frustrating and hurtful @TiredHurty67. To be told you can do all the things you struggle with. It feels like they're saying you are lying about it all. It's not an uncommon response sadly.

Thank you very much for that info . Why do we put ourselves through it?
The assessor even said at the end of the call “oh you are in a bad way I hope things get better for you soon”

I will think about it, but the anxiety is just too much for me at the moment.
