Just received my assessment date

I recently changed circumstances after 2 years

My mobility has got worse and been diagnosed with early ankylosing spondylitis

So I have now said I can’t walk 20 meters as I can’t but assessment is over the phone, how will they know how far I can walk?

Hi and a very warm welcome to the community.

You will need to explain as best you can how your disability affects your ability to function in a safe, timely and reliable manner.

If you cannot perform the descriptor required to qualify then you must really emphasise the difficulties you have.

I was expecting a face to face assessment so they could see for themselves so threw me off a little bit to be told it would be a telephone one

You can request a f2f assessment but they are currently doing very few of those.

Hi,

They can use other 'tests' of distance over the phone. For example they may ask whether you can walk to a post box, or walk around a supermarket, or walk to the end of your garden.

A face to face isn't necessarily accurate for this anyway, as some people will exaggerate their issues when being watched. (Not saying you would do this, just that the assessors know not to trust everything they see!)
