Hi, and good morning to all of my fellow community members on the site. It's good to be aboard. I'm looking forward to learning my way through the obstacle course known as P.I.P. I have myself been attempting to claim 50% free road tax, it's been an absolute nightmare! For the past 2 years I have been asking the DWP to send me my CERTIFICATE OF ENTITLEMENT, but all I ever get back is my STATEMENT OF ENTITLEMENT! As we all know, this DOESN'T allow me to tax my vehicle,to do that I need the CERTIFICATE. I have now for the past 2 years been left with no choice other than too pay full road tax price, even though I have been awarded the standard rate of entitlement. Are there any others having this same problem? Surely it isn't just myself???

    Hi,

You're definitely not the only one. A lot of people have issues with the 50% reduction. It's made much more complex than it should be.

Personally, I applied for the 50% refund more than 6 months ago. Fairly sure I won't get it now, DVLA can't be that slow!

With hindsight, I'm not sure whether I sent the Statement of Entitlement or Certificate of Entitlement now. It shouldn't really matter for road tax reduction as that's purely based on Standard Rate Mobility entitlement. It's only for a Blue Badge where the actual points need to be in a specific descriptor.

If I tax the car again this year I will attempt doing it the other way - sending the forms and cheque for half the amount a month before it runs out. (I haven't been able to drive for several years, so the car had been SORN'd until it looked like I was going to lose my off road parking last year).
