Hi @sandyxxx, have you rung DWP recently? Assessments are currently been carried out over the phone.

Hi @sandyxxx I understand your frustration and it doesn't help but note the DWP are running on reduced staff and dealing with more claims for benefits that ever. It appears it is an assessment you are waiting for so hopefully it wont be too long but again they have reduced staffing levels but on a positive it will only be a phone assessment rather then f2f.

Also if your successful your claim will be back dated to the date you applied

So glad you are finally getting somewhere. You must be unlucky. I've only joined recently but most posts I have read on here about new claimants including myself who started there journey late march or April have had their phone assesments at least.

The assessment centre has had my claim since the 28th February according to dwp. But we know they are really busy but they should keep people posted on what's going on.x

I made a claim last year March, did 2 MR. I got a tribunal date for April 1st and that was cancelled still waiting on new date. My rep reckons a few months at least. I live in London apparently a backlog.

Thanks everyone my elbow is coming on ok still really sore but it will mend.
I don't know if they have to get a assessor that knows about your disability to phone you or if it's any professional to do it. People I have spoke to who put their claim in after I did have had there f2f call and some have had a decision already. It's so frustrating I feel as though I'm begging. And when I phone them I feel as though I'm bothering them. It's awful xxx

The assessors are not trained in specific disabilities a lot of them are ex paramedics or physiotherapist

Ah right I thought they were specialists in a specific field. So you could get someone that doesn't know about a illness / disability you have x

Yes that's right they are not there to check diagnosis but to assess your ability to complete tasks against the descriptors

They will ask you questions based on your application

So complicated isn't it.i have to see the visual impaired consultant in July but that's not on my claim. Everything has changed since I put the claim in so don't know how that will pan out xx

Hi @sandyxxx - Just to clarify a few things:
    - firstly the assessors are trained to understand your functional disability, i.e. how does your disability affects your daily living activities, & or mobility
    - you will not necessarily meet an assessor that knows all about your disability.....they don't need to, but rather understand about how any disability affects your function, as mentioned above.
    - speaking as a physiotherapist (altho I trained a long time ago), I did spend 3 & a half years learning as much anatomy & physiology as a medical Dr. I received further training in many fields of disability; rheumatology, neurology, orthopaedics, etc. So, altho I couldn't know everything about every condition, physios do actually know quite a lot about specific disabilities, so I politely disagree with @janer1967 on that aspect, otherwise she is correct that it's not about your diagnosis, but how your disability affects you.
    - Any worsening of your condition cannot be taken into account, nor future visits with a consultant.
    - It's usually worthwhile seeing where your current claim takes you first, & I hope all goes well. :)
