My name is Jan, and I am a Filipina who recently moved to the UK to live with my husband in his home as of March 1st 2025. My husband is currently receiving Universal Credit (UC) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and I wanted to ask for guidance on what steps we need to take regarding his benefits now that I am living with him.
As my visa states "No Recourse to Public Funds," I understand that I am not eligible for benefits myself, but I want to ensure that we follow the correct procedures so that my husband’s entitlements are not affected. Since I am new here and do not have friends or family to guide me through this process, I would really appreciate your advice on what we should do.
Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

Hi,
In this case, I believe you should make a claim for Universal Credit yourself, and use the linking code to join that claim to your partners claim.
Although you have NRF, your savings and income could still affect your partners UC when you live together.
I would recommend confirming this with a benefits advice service such as the Citizens Advice Bureau as this is not a circumstance that I regularly advise on myself.
PIP is claimed as an individual, so moving in together does not affect that at all, they do not even need to be notified of this.
