Mandatory reconsideration

Finally had my letter and just found out that I only have the daily living portion and nothing for mobility at all which is very strange , considering my whole condition is around my knee disability... it's wild to me that this hasn't been given more than a couple of points. It was an RGN I spoke to and she seemed to clearly understand. (Now making me think she wasn't an RGN but just told to tell me that to ve honest.)

But anyway , moving forwards , I need to know what the best way to approach this is because obviously the mobility side of things is what's paramount , but I don't want to cause issues for the side they've already given me.

They've already acknowledged a need with this half decision.

They've already recognised the same need in full with lcwra.

I just don't understand how they're not at the same place with this and whether I should challenge it or just take what I've been given (which will help ) but isn't what i was told i should get or thought i would be getting after all the initial help from CAB etc

Hi @newbie2025, it's totally up to you but many people do get strange results at first and have them changed later on in the process. It can be pretty frustrating to go through the process of appealing, but if you need the support it's worth challenging them.

If you feel you should have scored more points in mobility, perhaps it's worth looking at the descriptors again and seeing if you can provide any more details about where you should have scored points. Sometimes it can be helpful to use some real world examples of what happens when you do certain activities, whether anyone has witnessed your difficulties and what the consequences were.

Scope have a page about challenging benefits decisions in case you'd find it useful: https://www.scope.org.uk/advice-and-support/challenging-pip-or-other-benefits-decisions

But I hope some of our members might have some tips and advice too 😊

Hi if it were me I would request a copy of the assessors report and see what explanations she has given for each descriptor and then challenge then challenge the disputed points with a MR

The report will state the assessors qualification.
