Pip / council tax

hi, has anyone been told that pip is now classed as an income. I haven't heard this.
My sister in-in-law who is disabled and a carer has just moved over to uc from income support with her husband, the a person in her council office has told her she has pa pay full council tax and her pip is classed as an income.🤷♀️

Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level. Each local authority has a different scheme and rules around income etc. This also means they can make changes to those rules.
Yes some areas are now counting PIP as income for CTR.

This is awful, this government needs to stop picking on the disabled and the poor, her mobility goes on her car, my mobility is going on my car.
can she fight this with help from cab or her pm,

It's not direct Government policy, as advised each local authority has a different scheme and they set the rules.
It will be the local authority that complaints need to be directed towards.

@kimi87 thank you for your reply. I will advice her to what you have said

it is a local authority decision, not a government one, but I appreciate the impact is the same. Which Council is that?

@ThemanfromLondon wirral borough Council, now she has just been told she has to pay her full rent, she's only just gone on to uc from income support.

Unless she lives in sheltered or supported housing, her rent should now be paid through Housing Element (UC) instead of Housing Benefit.
Both IS and HB end (unless the above applies) when UC is claimed.
One more payment (known as the run on payment) for both should be paid around 2 weeks after claiming UC.
Then her first UC payment should include Housing Element for the previous month.

bt1968, it's all wrong, just hitting the disabled and the poor.
As the saying goes, the rich get richer the poor get poorer.
