Stick or twist

Hi I currently receive high rate care on DLA and LCWRA. My question is would it make sense to claim PIP now before the changes happen in order to reduce the risk of being affected by the cuts to LCWRA and the 4 point PIP criteria? Thanks 🙏

Hi,
That is an interesting question.
I guess it depends on how far away your DLA end date is? If you got a lifetime award then you could still be years away from being moved over to PIP.
It also depends on whether you are likely to easily score 4 points for any one daily living descriptor or not? If you are, there's no reason to move early.
I'm not sure what will happen to the DLA claimants if the WCA is scrapped and LCWRA is based entirely on the PIP assessment. It's possible that you wouldn't be reassessed at all until you get moved over to PIP.
Personally I think there are too many variables and unknowns to make an informed decision at this stage. If there's a chance that you won't get PIP due to differences in criteria between DLA & PIP, then it could cause months or even years of extra hassle unnecessarily.

Yes I agree with your premise. I do wonder though whether those in my position would be left alone until the changes happen then asked to claim PIP in order to trigger the cut to LCWRA.
