Hi

I receive both PIP and enhance UC due to a health condition. Am I not allowed going on holiday abroad?

Please give me an honest answer, as I need to go away for about 3 weeks.

    Hi @RMALIYADDE,
Welcome to this lovely and friendly Scope forum! 😊
Yes, you are entitled to go on holiday. Please see links  below:
    •  UC: You can continue receiving Universal Credit for up to one month while abroad. However, you must inform UC through your journal homepage (out of GB section) if you leave the country, even if it’s for less than a month.

     • PIP: You can still claim PIP if you’re abroad for up to 13 weeks. While it doesn’t explicitly state that you need to inform them, I personally felt it was best to notify through the PIP helpline.

     •   Longer Stays : If you’re going abroad solely for approved medical treatment or emergencies, you may be able to stay longer without affecting your benefits(see link above). However, you must get prior approval in writing from your GP and DWP before leaving. I didn’t do this last year , and my UC & LCWRA were closed. I’m now appealing at an independent tribunal, and it’s been a really difficult experience. Therefore, I’m just sharing my knowledge so that no one else is affected.
(Please Note: I’m not a benefits advisor-just a disabled claimant like you on UC & PIP, sharing my understanding of the rules based on personal experience.)
As you’re only going for a 3 week holiday (assuming it’s not for medical reasons), you should be fine as long as you notify UC. Your benefits (PIP and UC)should not be affected.
Best wishes, and have a nice holiday! 😊

The more exciting question is where are you going on holiday?

    Good morning

Many thanks "Noonebelieves" for your explanation and I was also doing some research and I found the same information. Yes, I will inform the UC and PIP if I am going. I hope your appeal at the independent tribunal would be a success and you will receive all the support what you are well deserved. May God Bless You!

Hi Durhamjaide, thanks for your comment and if I am going abroad it would be to USA as I got a close family friends and two of my other friends also planning to gather there for a break.

Many thanks and blessings to you all.

The things you have to do& the people you have to inform when you go abroad, is it because we're PEASANTS & we need to be checked on? Might as well tell them otherwise you might LIFE IN PRISON!

    Best wishes!

@JONFISHER, unfortunately, being on benefits often feels like being at the mercy of the DWP. It’s a difficult and frustrating system to navigate, and from my own experiences,I completely understand how disheartening it can be.
