    Hi,

This isn't anything to do with the spring statement. This is an older change, but they're still going through claims and sending the letters out.

The first question is - have you had Enhanced Daily Living since starting PIP? If yes, there's nothing you need to do.

If you either had Standard Daily Living, or even none at all, then check whether you scored any points in the 'mixing with people' section. If you only scored 2, then you may have been entitled to 4 under this change. These people should contact PIP to have their claim reconsidered, potentially going all the way back to 2016.

If you scored 4 or more points in that section, then this change won't affect you and there's nothing you need to do.

HHello Overlyanxious. Thank you for replying

Yes im kn enhanced daily living.

At first I was on standard and also standard mobility. Then they took mobility off me and I appealed this was about 2 yrs ago I went to appeal and won enhanced mobility but still had standard daily living.

When My reassessment was up again last Yr I was automatically put on enhanced daily living and standard mobility.

I decided not to appeal anything then because it took almost 18 months before to hear of an appeal here.

I just wasn't up to doing that again.

So basically I've been on enhanced daily living from January approx last Yr and the opposite for mobility.

There's nothing you need to do then; you're already on double enhanced and you will stay on that til your next review.

You can safely file or bin this letter.

    Hi @masser

Currently they are reviewing old claims, do not bin this letter.

Please respond to it to ask they look back to see if you should have been awarded a higher rate from the start of your PIP claim. As you said above you were on standard rate at the beginning of your claim, this could be back paid and increased to high rate.

This is another thread, where someone asked for it to be looked at again, and this is DWP response. Just so you know what may be expected if you do ask them, so you can prepare.
    good luck

Ooh yeah - sorry, i didn't think of that. Yes, if you were awarded 2 points for mixing with people and it should have been 4, would that have bumped you up to enhanced rate from the start?

That could be quite a bit of back pay for you!

Hi can anyone give me advice on my post please???

I honestly do not know. But since I've ever been on benefits from dla to pip I've had to fight every step of the way with the dwp.

I've looked at some dates. May be give you a glimpse of what I mean.

In feb 2016 I was taken off mobility and just kept on standard daily living.

So I appealed and it took 18 months for the appeal date to come through. Then I got a letter telling me my appeal would take place on Feb 3rd 2023. Between 2016 and 2023 various events took place visiting drs and being assessed for ptsd.

I can't go out unless im with someone. That someone being my wife who I trust above all.

Then my appeal took place in front of 3 people.

I was only in 5 minutes and didn't have to talk. I was awarded enhanced daily living on top of enhanced mobility. Before the appeal I had to reapply for pip as it was due up on a date after the appeal.

So three to five weeks after the appeal I went through a telephone assess.ent and the high rate of mobility was removed and I was put on standard mobility..but kept on enhanced daily living.

So I had time to think if I was going to appeal and I decided not to as I am very tired of fighting.

So I was awarded those rates indefinitely for a period of 10 yrs at least. And I now realise those ten years will be up in 2026.

So with the changes to pip happening next year in 2026 announced by the budget and the letter I got which I posted here im of the method of thinking they are prepping to remove me from pip and I'll have a fight again on my hands and im worried sick at those that's.

I 2as told ohone them ask why they sent the letter and to be honest im afraid to ask them for all the reasons I've given.

So that's where I am tonight and I can guarantee I won't sleep this weekend.

    Best wishes

As far as I can see, this letter won't give you any extra on mobility.

The descriptor they are talking about refers to whether or not you need help to socialise with others.

From what i recall, prior to this change, if you did not leave your house at all to mix with people, and you never accepted visitors into your house, no points were awarded here on the basis that you did not need any help due to avoiding social situations altogether.

With this new change (new from 2016) they decided you can score points here if you do need help to mix with people but you haven't actually managed to attempt a social situation yet.

So - for example, this could apply to someone with anxiety who is receiving counselling to help manage that but is not yet at the stage of attempting any social interaction.

Or - it could apply to an autistic person whose behaviour causes alarm in public spaces. They are working towards calm behaviour in a public space but need lots of ongoing support and, so far, they have not reached the stage of being able to go into a public space at all.

This descriptor is nothing to do with any help you need with physically mobilising in social situations - it's all to do with any help you need due to anxiety, or a speech/hearing difficulty/autism/bi polar/schizophrenia/depression/ptsd etc

And i think it will only be worth taking forward if you were receiving ongoing support from a therapist/counsellor/support worker to help you work towards social situations.

Now - before you give them a call - i must point out i do like to try to be helpful but i have been known to get things wrong before (!) So please do just give enough time toomorrow for other posters to come on here with their interpretation of what this letter means in case i have got it wrong.

I think you should ask them to review it again if u did need help back then with mixing with other people or social support meaning this event would cause u distress and u need help from someone in order to carry it out, my letter actually said that my claim wasnt affected by the 2016 law changes and i was just going to leave it, but something inside me told me to write to them and i do feel i was only given 2 points on this part but that didnt reflect how much i suffered back then with this discriptor so i decided to ask them to look again, if i was u i would write to them like i did saying why u feel u should if been scored them extra 2 points as they may owe u money i know u said u was getting high rate daily living back then but bcos uv had a period of having to fight for that etc i would still ask for the review and see wat comes of it, the worst that will happen is they will say no thats all an u never know maybe getting them 2 extra points may help in future too good luck with it i will update my post once i hear back my decision x

My question is people whos claims are being looked at from back then and who have been successful in getting the extra points and awarded hr daily living does that change go all the way to now or just from 2016 to watever date they decide?

I would guess it has to go all the way to either

I have also had this letter but I scored 0 points in 2019 then in may 2024 scored 2 points for this. I was moved from lower daily living to enhanced daily living. I was so unsure what to do so I rang she said you won't lose anything if you want them to look at your claim But will it just be for that question? They look at i am worried now it might trigger something else off like they may stop my claim all together anyone no what will happen because I still have 4 years left in my claim Any advice please anyone Thankyou
