PIP reconsideration - not awarded

Hi

I'm AuDHD, I wouldn't say I'm high needs but Peri menopause has exacerbated things for me and I'm living in crisis mode. Always doing the things most urgent because I can't organise, or I'm too tired, I've practically become a recluse, I have no money management skills. Everywhere else I've seen online says I don't have a hope in hell of getting any pip. My next step would be tribunal! I don't know how I would hold up in tribunal! I feel like a fraud.

Keep going you are not a fraud. Ask your doctor for a letter of support. Use AI Gemini to help you organize your thoughts. Just type help me to put together a appeal for my health conditions. List all what you are going through and the AI will arrange everything in such a way that will help you appeal. Also to generate letters to doctors etc . Keep going you will get there and receive the award you deserve.

    Dear @cvda,

First of all, a warm welcome to this lovely and supportive Scope community. I’m really sorry to hear about what you’re going through-it sounds incredibly tough.

I’m not a benefits expert myself, just a fellow disabled person, but I wanted to reach out after reading your post. It sounds like you’re facing a lot, and I wonder if you’re currently getting any support-either medically or for your mental health, especially around the challenges you mentioned with AuDHD and the impact of perimenopause.

When I first joined Scope in January , I also found it difficult to open up, but I quickly discovered that this is a really friendly, non-judgmental space. There are many kind and understanding members here who may be able to share their experiences-especially around applying for or appealing PIP decisions-and offer tips or moral support.

Please feel free to post whenever you’re ready. You’re not alone, and you absolutely deserve support for what you’re going through.

Wishing you strength and sending kind thoughts your way.

    Warmest wishes

I now get standard pip but when I look at previous application and why I didn't get it I wish that I kept appealing. I just gave up but for me it meant years of more pain work more hours when I should of got the support I getting now and working 12 hours a week which helps .

I told myself that because I was refused that I was bad enough to get anything..So four more years of working I am now on morphine everyday and in a lot of pain and I should of get applying for benefits but I work all my life and thought nope the letter says I am not bad enough and I must get on with it.

After a few falls down stairs because my knee lock up I decided I really need help

Hi @cvda - & welcome to the community from me too. Unfortunately the success rate of Mandatory Reconsiderations is pretty abysmal, & that's nothing to do with you, just they usually stay the same. However, PIP tribunals have an about 70% success rate which is far more positive.

With a tribunal you can ask for it to be by a phone call. The tribunal will consist of a judge, a Dr, & someone with an understanding about disability. They are totally separate from the DWP & will listen to you.

This website may better help you see where some of your difficulties lie & where you may need help, even if you don't get that help. Remember PIP is about how you are the majority of the time. Please see: https://www.mentalhealthandmoneyadvice.org/en/welfare-benefits/pip-mental-health-guide/help-with-your-pip-claim/how-to-fill-in-the-pip-form/

Altho it's about filling in a PIP form, I hope you will still find it helpful.

An alternative is also to see if you can find some help locally; a Welfare Rights Office would be ideal. Please see: https://advicelocal.uk/ Use 'Welfare benefits' from the drop down menu.

Yes I've heard this but all the people I speak to seem to have higher needs than me. I am going through my PIP form again and using turn2us for comparison. I can see where I've made some mistakes. It's so hard! Thank you

Think back to when you applied.. you felt you should be awarded… So, take that and follow through. Otherwise, you will never know. Best wishes.
