Hi all

Please can I have advice 🙏 my daughter has just turned 21 lives at home with me on high pip and uc, there is onlu 2 of us living in the house. I also am disabled and claim lwrca, I am named on my tenancy agreement with our local housing association my daughter is an occupant on my rent account. Uc had always paid my full rent now this month they have stated in my payment that they are only paying half due to 2 people on my tenancy ( which my daughter is not just me). Is this a mistake on their behalf?? Or do my daughter need to claim through uc for the other half of rent?? Please advise as its £380 a month they expect me to find to pay other half of rent. I'm super stressed out as my bills as it is are super high. Please help!!

Are you both named on the tenancy?

If so you need to inform UC that your daughter gets Daily Living PIP

    https://www.gov.uk/housing-and-universal-credit/renting-from-private-landlord

No reduction in your Housing Element should be made for this reason.

    Thank you for your reply

I'm named on the tenancy agreement I am the account holder however she is named as an occupant. I am her appointee for everything and I've looked onto her uc how do I add half her rent?? Do I select living with parent or something else??

You are eligible for full rent to be paid, because your daughter gets Daily Living PIP. You need to tell UC from your UC account this information.

    Please read the section titled

If you live with someone who is 21 or older and is not your partner

    On the link I gave.

Thank you so much you have eased my stress that I had. I've told my uc account I've changed hers to having to pay half from hers. Hope I've done this correctly 🙏

    That's not what I advised.

Because your daughter gets Daily Living PIP you are entitled to have full rent paid.

That your Daughter gets Daily Living PIP needs to be communicated to UC. So they do not reduce your Housing Element.

This advice applies as you have said your Daughter is listed as an occupant and isn't on the tenancy as a joint tenant.

Are you sure about this as UC have said differently?

You might want to take your paperwork and consult a trained benefits advisor.

Council Tax is seperate and administered by your local council. She should already be on your CT account as a non dependant/occupant.
