Get your MP to act against cuts

Thank you for your kind words, @Martinp. I truly appreciate it-though honestly, I don’t feel I deserve any compliments until our voices reach the very place they need to be heard.
I’m just so angry and heartbroken that our own government has not only drafted such a deceitful proposal, but has also gone to great lengths to silence and sideline disabled people -just to scrape together savings by cutting from those who need support the most. It’s beyond cruel.
That’s why I really believe this strategy of directly responding to the consultation by email, in the way I outlined on the Scope Green Paper thread yesterday, is so important. It adds a layer of scrutiny and makes it harder for them to ignore us or quietly push this through when it hits parliament.
I have real hope- because we’ve seen before how public pressure can stop these things in their tracks. And I truly believe that if enough of us speak up, we will be heard.
Our voices matter. They won’t silence us.

Its rather irritating and stressful to see petitions calling for stopping changes to UC and PIP, and completely forgetting the people who will be terribly affected by merging ESA with JSA to create a time limited unemployment insurance benefit.

Signed what surprises me is how many disabled people there is should be thousands of signatures maybe don't have access

Makes me laugh just before general elections read articles like cost of living money pension rises all these promises I'm so angry mines one area that won't be voting !! But let's see starmer trip over his own tounge promises the world

I totally agree with you, @Catherine21.So many disabled people out there aren’t on forums like this - they’re isolated, overwhelmed, and have almost given up hope. That’s exactly why we’ve got to keep standing up -not just for ourselves, but for everyone who’s been pushed to the sidelines and made to feel like they don’t have a voice.
Let’s keep the momentum going to stand up against these benefit cuts….We’re doing well!
Best wishes ✌️

I've been reading no legal challenges against pip and the government wouldn't listen to a court all looks like it's set in stone

Apologies if this idea has already been suggested but I've only just found this thread (thanks to Holly_Scope) and I haven't had a chance to read the thread yet.
My MP is new since the boundary changes last year. As far as I can tell she hasn't raised her voice against the proposed cuts and so-called reforms. I fear she won't, and won't be persuaded to. Nevertheless I want to contact her and give her no option but to look at the facts, as opposed to just getting a reply where she sings from the Green Paper hymn sheet.
Does anyone know if there's a document going around, or a webpage, that concisely breaks down and lists the ACTUAL impacts of the proposed cuts rather than the conveniently sanitized version most politicians seem to be reading? I would like to send it with a covering letter that talks about how the cuts will affect me and my situation. In fact, I'm going to try and get a face to face appointment with her at her surgery (assuming she even runs one occasionally). I'll present my letter and the list of facts to her after I've asked her what she intends to do about these acts of fiscal terrorism.
I'm also wondering if it's possible to do a FOI request for an estimate of the number of her constituents currently in receipt of PIP, as well as those on UC in the LCWRA group. I want to hear her defend her support for the cuts when confronted with figures that predict what the real local toll will be. (She's Labour, by the way.) Does anyone know if such a FOI request would be realistic?

@Catherine21
I hear your frustration, and I really feel it too -but please don’t lose hope. The very reason this government is trying to silence and sideline us is because they know how powerful our voices are. That’s exactly why we must keep speaking up.I’ve stopped trusting any narrative that says there’s no hope- because that’s exactly what they want us to believe. We do have power, and now more than ever, we need to use it to stand up for our rights and push back against these cruel benefit cuts by the end of June .

Great effort, @Catherine21 -truly inspiring!
Let’s keep pushing back against these harmful benefit cuts from every angle we can.
I’ve just sent another detailed personal email(to his parliament email)to my labour MP, sharing how these proposals would personally affect me, my family, and our children - including some stark figures I’ve been working on over the past month.
Catherine, you’re doing an incredible job amplifying our voices on both a national and international stage. Your dedication means so much. Please keep going -we’re with you!
In solidarity, always ✊

The vile & toxic DWP are sending out a horrific survey asking disabled people how they spend their PIP money
DWP have no legal right to ask & you have no legal obligation to fill it in
if you send a letter of opposition tell them what you think of their vile cuts

Thank you for the alert, @jul1aorways. I’ve also seen this important information shared by other members across several threads — really appreciate all the awareness you’re raising to keep our community informed. It’s also deeply unsettling to know that many disabled people outside our forum have already responded to these surveys, often without realising the implications. Even some of my colleagues have…..It is frightening to feel like we can’t trust our own government at times -especially when it feels like these proposals are designed to create fear and uncertainty among the disabled community .But despite all that, we continue to rise above it. There is real strength in our collective voice, and it’s that unity that can -and will -stop harmful proposals in their tracks. Thank you again for standing strong and sharing this with us.

Dear Scope Members,
I’d be grateful for your support in helping this important new petition gain momentum:Withdraw the Scrapping of the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) in the Green Paper
The Government must immediately withdraw the Pathways to Work: pReforming Benefits and Support to Get Britain Working Green Paper and conduct a full and meaningful inclusive consultation with disabled people at all stages of any proposal, in accordance with the Gunning Principles. The Green Paper proposes scrapping WCA and replacing PIP as a single health assessment using a stricter 4-point daily living test, without meaningful consultation with disabled people-either during development or now. No clear way exists for them to share views. It’s not an inclusive approach. This breaches the Gunning Principles of consultation . The aim of the proposal seems cost-cutting, not real reform. These changes would have devastating impacts on disabled people, their families, &children.
Please consider signing and sharing to protect vital support for disabled people.
Thank you so much for your solidarity and support✊1 -
Some encouraging news at last!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗
This article from the Observer (The Guardian on Sunday) shows that what we are contributing to the campaign against the cuts really is working.
However, there is so much more that we can do so WE MUST keep the pressure up on government. We've done an incredible job so far, we must see it through to the very end!✊
WELL DONE EVERYONE !! 👏👏👏👏
