Why do you only get 1/4 off council tax if single?

The council tax is based on the property and two occupants living in it.

So, if there is only one occupant, why are you not reduced by 50%. That is half of two people.

They don't charge for extra occupants, so you could have a family of four living in a property and it's still based on the band and two adults.

It's the usual way of life being more expensive when single! I agree it is unfair.

You get a single occupancy rate for the water.

My water company doesn't offer any discounts on unmetered or metered rates for single occupancy.

    It's about proportions.

That our bin is less full than other people's doesn't change the cost of emptying it.

It's just how the digest diversifies.

    Good luck

I am on a water meter. I am hoping that they reduce the bill next year as they have set up the bills as average usage.

Nothing about me is average 😂

My water company tried that with me, I refused the amount they wanted and set it myself.

I give a reading every month and generate a bill every 3 months so I know the payments are correct.

Even though my bills are all in credit their system still asks me each time to increase my payments by £24 per year. I just ignore!

Before I moved in they estimated my usage as 56m3 a year. My actual usage is 25m3.

My bill is a fixed £38 a month. It's annoying as everyone said it should be £24.

It's a meter, but not a smart meter. So that's a poor excuse as like you say I could send the readings monthly if need be.
