PIP Appeal

Hi, I had a assessment on April 2nd and received a text on April 15th that I had been awarded PIP and to allow 2 weeks for the letter, the letter arrived today and to my surprise I have been awarded enhanced mobility while only being awarded 4 points for daily living, my question really is can I appeal the daily living decision and if I do can this have any effect on the mobility aspect as truthfully I would only give myself standard for both hence the surprise at being awarded enhanced mobility as doing the online test available I only score myself 8 points on it and that’s a barely 8 points.

On the decision letter the daily living aspect is non sensical, for example I never claimed to have trouble eating and drinking and left the page blank on the form, yet the letter says that as I can hold a mobile phone I clearly have dexterity in my hands to eat and drink, I put down I have trouble washing and bathing and the response was while she acknowledges I have some difficulty I do not need to do it every day.

I am now questioning if firstly I can appeal and secondly if I should as if they can take enhanced mobility away I could end up being back to square one.

Hi @GRD welcome to the community, I hope you're well today. Some people do find their decision letters and reports aren't quite what they were expecting. It can be a really tough decision, but you can appeal if you'd like to even if you've already been given an award.

They will look at your whole case again to see whether you should have been scored differently, so this does mean that your points for mobility may change too. Unfortunately there isn't a way to appeal just the daily living part of the award at the moment. Scope have a page about appealing benefits decisions that you might find useful:

If you feel you'd like to get some advice on your claim first, it may be worth speaking to a local benefits adviser to see whether they can take a look for you and help you decide:

Turn2Us - AdviceFinder and https://advicelocal.uk/find-an-adviser have a search you can use to find local help.
