Universal Credit

I have just spoken to Universal Credit, as I was told to change from ESA.

From reading on comments, I am very worried with everything, and it makes me feel that Universal Credit is not a good service.

Hi @sben, often on the community we hear a lot of the negative stories but not many positive ones. That's not always because people aren't having positive experiences.

If something bad happens, people come here to seek advice and talk to others who understand. But if it all goes well people don't always post about it.

This can make it seem like everyone is having a bad time but it's not always the case. After reading lots of posts I've definitely seen examples where people have had a smooth transition over and are happy with their service, so it's not always bad.

It can be a really worrying time making the change, but I hope your transition goes smoothly and it all works out okay for you ☺️

I used to have faith in UC and the benefits system, but now they blatantly lie,bad enough doing it in misleading press releases, they do it to you over the phone,I guess the facelessness, the non human contact element makes it easier for those employed to get away with the guilt..

They state they don't look at your daily transactions and that they only check for accumulated wealth. LIE..the last phone interview I was asked who my sister was and why I was sending her money,!!! When I explained her pet dog got ill and needed to be transported to a vets.they also said you withdrew £300 in one day,??? Yes that was for the vet..I said look again, you will see she is paying that loan back.So it's a LIE dwp are not going through peoples lives with a draconian attitude that we are all criminals until we prove our own innocence.Go after the fakers and fraudsters and jail, fine and deport the criminals when discovered.

I will soon be having a face-to-face interview at the job centre, as they want to see evidence of everything.

Do they ask a lot of silly questions at interviews?

Why does it take 5 weeks for universal credit to make the first payment?

    As now ESA has stopped.

Because UC is paid monthly, there has to be a 5 week gap at the beginning to allow that cycle to have the right timing.

ESA stops once UC is applied for, but there will be one further payment known as the run on payment. This will be paid in around 2 weeks but not might be for the full amount.
