Ongoing Delays and Conflicting Information from DWP – PIP Claim Still Not Resolved

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out for support and to share my experience in case anyone else has been through something similar. My PIP claim has been an incredibly long and emotionally exhausting journey.

Timeline:

  • I applied for PIP in November 2024 and was told by the DWP on multiple calls that I had been awarded Enhanced Daily Living and Standard Mobility.
  • I was expecting my decision letter and back pay (from 20th November 2024), but nothing arrived.
  • I was then told award letter has not been printed yet as i require letters in large print
  • I’ve asked for my assessment report 4-5 times in the last few months which I’ve still not received.
  • I was then told the decision was “paused” and had gone back to Capita (the assessment provider) for further advice.
  • This was due to a “management check” at DWP being rejected by a manager — no full explanation has been given.
  • I submitted supporting evidence, including a GP summary, prescription list, and a detailed personal statement describing how my conditions affect me daily.
  • DWP said they were still waiting for a GP factual report since January, but my GP surgery hasn’t sent it despite several chases.
  • I asked DWP and the case manager to make a decision based on the evidence already available — they said they’d escalate it.
  • A team leader at DWP acknowledged I’d been given conflicting information and promised a callback — which never happened.
  • I also contacted my MP, who raised a formal complaint with DWP.

Recently, someone from DWP’s complaints team called me, but unfortunately, he didn’t acknowledge the stress or apologise — just repeated that my case was “complex” and they still needed the GP report. He said he would write to my MP but couldn’t update the system himself as he wasn’t a case manager.

Right now:

  • I’m mentally and emotionally exhausted. The uncertainty is affecting my health.
  • I feel I’ve provided all possible evidence and just want a decision — whatever the outcome.
  • I’m scared they’ll now overturn the original award, even though I was told I had been awarded PIP.
  • I’ve been waiting months and still haven’t received anything in writing, no texts or letters.

If anyone has been in a similar situation — especially with a decision being delayed after initially being told it was made — I would appreciate any advice or reassurance. This process has made me feel incredibly isolated and helpless.

Thank you for reading.

Hi @PracticeWotUPreach, welcome to the community. That sounds incredibly frustrating I'm sorry you've had to deal with all that. Have you been in contact with your MP since speaking to the complaints team to find out whether they've heard anything back?

I can totally understand why you must be feeling so helpless and isolated in this, it can't have been easy and it has dragged on for a long time now.

I'm afraid I haven't been in this situation myself but I hope some of our members might be able to share any similar experiences and things that helped.

One thing that might be worth looking into is whether an advocate might be able to help you. It could take some of the stress away from pursuing responses and things.

VoiceAbility could be worth a go, or there's also POhWER.

Hope you can bring the whole situation to a close soon with a positive result.

@PracticeWotUPreach Strange situation. That is a very short turnaround for a new PIP claim! You were told of your award but Assessment reports can go for a check but this is normally prior to an award? I can't help thinking the extra information they require from your GP is the stumbling block. Mentioned last by the DWP complaints.

This is just thoughts with trying to help. Rosie is correct, get some help with it and try not to worry.
