Ongoing Award

I was awarded enhanced/higher rate for both care and mobility with an ongoing award back in 2021 and DWP stated that the would contact me some time after September 2031.

My question is I know I probably won’t be called for another assessment after 10 years as I will be over state pension age. However I only scored a maximum of 3 points in one of the care components. With all the stuff going on about having to score at least 4 points in at least one component for daily care I am worried they will reassess me at that time and decide that as I didn’t get 4 points in one component back in 2021 I will no longer be eligible for the care component come 2031 (or later)

What do you think the chances of that are? I appreciate that as these changes have not been brought in yet but I’m already worrying about it (as I expect thousands upon thousands are too)

The proposed changes are just that proposed changes! I would not worry currently, you have a long award. In addition, you state you will be State Pension age before your next award, PIP awards automatically switch to an "indefinite" award when you reach State Pension age. So you may not be reviewed in 2031. You will receive only a "light touch" review too with being over State Pension age.

We do not know for sure but the proposed changes do not affect State Pension pensioners anyway.

Relax a bit, you are in a good position with your PIP!

Hi @DuffersMum, we don't have the full details yet, but in a recent response to a written question Stephen Timms said:

"In keeping with existing policy, people of State Pension Age are not routinely fully reviewed and will not be affected by the proposed changes." The full answer is here if you'd like to read it:

Thank you, the light paper review is what worries me because if I say nothing has changed, they will then look at my previous award and see I only received 3 points in any one descriptor and that might automatically downgrade my award to mobility only..I guess at least I’ll have my state pension by then though if the worst should happen
