Hi, my name is AW56! Can we get Carers Allowance for each other?

My partner has chronic emphysema.
I have kidney failure, rheumatoid arthritis and Vasculitis.
We are both receiving state pension, I have PIP and he has Attendance Allowance.
Can we get Carers Allowance for each other? Thank you 😊

Hi there @AW56 and welcome to the community. 😁
If a couple are caring for each other, they can both claim Carer's Allowance, as long as they meet the 35-hour weekly care requirement for each individual. So with PIP and AA, you should both be able to claim.

Unfortunately as you are both state pension age you cannot be paid Carers Allowance alongside your pension, unless you are being paid less than the CA amount which is £83.30.
It's still worth applying as you can be awarded an underlying entitlement to CA which can increase the chance of getting Pension Credit.
I suggest talking things through with Age UK or a local welfare rights organisation.
