Pip review. I think k they made a mistake?

hi all. firstly thankyou for taking the time to read my post. And I apologise if I’m not allowed to post this.
I’ve recently been made aware of some terminal illnesses I have.
I’ve been receiving pip for the last 3 years due to my ill health. And had to fill in a review form. My pip assessment went fine and there was no problems apart from the fact I scored 0 in “planning and following a route to another place” I added eveything that’s wrong with me and the things I find difficult. after receiving my pip assemnt scores back my family went over the guid lines and point scoring they are under the impression a mistake was made? I have done a mandatory reconsideration following the advise of my family.
here is what we added.
.Due to my increased anxiety. Medical and mental health conditions this distresses me and parents me from going out. Travelling and meeting people.
.my anxiety makes eveything difficult to plan and follow routs.
My poor mental health makes planning and following routes nigh on imposible.
.i cannot walk very far without aid due to the severity of my illness and oedema.
.i have problems with crowds especially in public and trains witch prevent the use of them.
I cannot plan a route to a place I don’t know.
I will not travel anywhere without a family member accompanying me.
I do not like crowds and avoid then when possible.
could someone shed some light on this as I’m so lost and really don’t know if I made the right choice.
kind regards
Will

Hello, William, and welcome to Scope.
While I haven’t personally experienced this situation, many members have successfully appealed decisions. By responding to your post, it will bring your question back to the top, and I’m confident that someone will be able to offer helpful advice.

Have you had the decision from your PIP review? You are taking about the assessment. The Decision Manager does not always go on what the assessor said in his/her assessment when making the final decision. You will need to wait until you get the decision letter before putting in a Mandatory Reconsideration. If you are not happy with the decision you then put in a Mandatory Reconsideration.

Thankyou for the response @Trevor_PIP. Sorry I wasn’t clear, I’ve had my decision letter and I was awarded enhance pip. I’ve filed a MR. My question was aimed directly at the “planning and following a route to another place” I scored 0. My family members are saying the assessor has made a mistake on that part. My answers are listed above in the post. they looked at the pip guid and score system online after and agreed I should not have scored 0. I don’t know where I stand with it all or
I should have raised a MR in the first place.

@William19999 You say you were awarded Enhanced Rate PIP, is this for both elements - Daily Living and Mobility? Or were you awarded Enhanced Rate Daily Living and Standard Rate Mobility, which I gather is the case?
If you were awarded Enhanced Rate for Daily Living and Mobility, it would have been better to not bother with the Mandatory Reconsideration as you cannot increase your PIP award. The Mandatory Reconsideration will look at your claim again.
I gather you were awarded Standard Rate Mobility so you are trying to increase that element of your award. In this case you have done right, but your claim will be looked at again.
With a mandatory Reconsideration rarely the original decision is changed, it usually stays the same. Then you would have to go for a tribunal hearing to continue.

Is thier a process of changing your circumstances from the normal change of circumstances to one of claiming it under the special rules, due to your new terminal illness??

Hi @lma, are you in the process of claiming or do you already receive PIP? If you speak to the people on the enquiry line they should be able to help you put in a change of circumstances and put you forward for a quicker process:
Personal Independence Payment (PIP): Report a change to your needs or circumstances - GOV.UK

yeah I was awarded enhanced pip with standard disability. No assessment needed due to the supporting evidence from the hospital ect. Do you think in the questions above there wasn’t enough information in them? I’ve explained eveything that is wrong with me and the problems I have. Majority of them seem to line up on the point scoring system issued by pip. Thanks for the insight it’s much appreciated.

hi lma thanks for the response. Are you referring to the SR1 form? I’ve only just been made aware of this I’m currently getting on through my doctor. Does this cover all aspects of the claim?

Thanks. I thought you were awarded Standard Rate Mobility due to where you got 0 points and the reasons you were putting forward in your MR. You have said what you cannot do, I think you have made your points clear!

HI,
I may be mistaken but if you have been told that you have a terminal illness you should automatically qualify for full PIP, ie…highest daily living and highest mobility. (there are rules associated with this, see below)
The below is from Citizens advice.
How to claim PIP if you have a terminal illnessThis advice applies to England. See advice for See advice for Northern Ireland, See advice for Scotland, See advice for Wales
If you have a terminal illness, you'll usually get PIP automatically. The DWP will fast-track your application - this means:
- you won’t have to fill out as many forms
- you won’t have to go to a face to face assessment
- you should get your first payment sooner
Eligibility rules if you have a terminal illness
To get PIP:
- you need to be at least 16 years old when you apply
- you usually need to be living in England or Wales when you apply
- your doctors must say you could die within 12 months
There are extra rules you need to meet if you’re not a UK citizen.
How to claim
To make your claim, call the PIP claim line and organise for your doctor or consultant to send the DWP a medical form called a SR1.
Wishing you the very best
