My wife has had mobility problems for about a year now due to an ongoing severe leg ulcer, She can only walk very short distances.
I'm considering buying a basic wheelchair, purely to take her for hospital appointments by a patient transport ambulance. Something I can push (ie. doesn't need the big wheels), with brakes, collapsible, suitable for riding in during the transit, and reasonably comfortable for the often long waits in hospital. I haven't a clue what to look for and look forward to some advice.
Thanks in advance.

Hi @AndyPagin - & welcome to the community. There are some options in the following links, & you can get advice from this site's wheelchair guide or talk to one of their occupational therapists.
You'll see the prices include before or after VAT, & you'll be able to get VAT relief by completing a very simple form online:
So. perhaps a couple of suggestions:
these probably have the brakes you may be used to, which are the lock down type. Some wheelchairs have cable brakes.
There are wheelchairs for all sizes, but as I say you can also great good advice whilst considering a purchase. Otherwise do check a wheelchair's specifications!
A wheelchair cushion is also a good investment for comfort. Hope some of this helps.

Hi,
I can't offer any advice on choosing a wheelchair, but would recommend asking for a wheelchair assessment, as she may be eligible for one through the NHS. The wheelchair service should also be able to help you choose the correct type.
