Has anyone ever done a skydive? I want to do one this year, whilst I am able (Need consent form signed by GP).

That's brave @Ranald! Hope you can get it signed off by your GP. I've never done a skydive but my partner has done the indoor version of it in a wind tunnel type thing. He really enjoyed it but obviously not quite as scary as jumping straight out of a plane!

He's tempted to go and do a full skydive at some point. I'd definitely be interested to hear from any members who have done it.

Will you be fundraising for anything or are you just doing it for fun?

Just for fun, Rosie, but not counting my chickens until I see if I am allowed. I've missed out on so much in recent years, I just wanted to do something interesting for my 50th birthday.

Then the DWP will find out about it, cancel your disability and send you to parachute to Gaza, Ukraine or Klendathu!

I've not heard great things about Klendathu @egister I heard it was an ugly planet, a bug planet. 😉

@Ranald that sounds really exciting and something I must admit I've thought about doing whilst I still can. 😁 There's lots of places all over the UK that do them. You can often get some decent deals from sites like Red Letter Days.

I would love to try it but I can't ride a bike..

Okay, we won't land Ranald on Klendathu. Let him fight in Gaza and/or Ukraine.

Jumping with a parachute is dangerous, even if there are no fractures, a concussion is guaranteed.
In a rough sea, on a boat there is more extreme).

I have landed a parachute safely without any concussion or injury and would jump at the chance to do it again (pun intended) 😁

My daughter did a tandem sky dive for charity last year and loved it.

You'll get training on the ground, fitted into your suit and be first to exit. Of course that's the scary bit but floating down to Earth is exhilarating. As long as you can lift or bend your legs when you come in to land, your co-pilot will be leaning backwards and take the impact with their legs.

I hope you get clearance from the doc and try it!

Well you will no doubt be much relieved to know that I won't be doing a tandem parachute jump. The leg lifting out the road thing isn't possible. I shall file it alongside all the other things I can't do, no big deal.

I'm very envious of you @Ranald! That's something on my list to do as well. I hope you're able to get approved and get it done 🤗

@Holly-Scope It's not happening unfortunately, but I did offer the opportunity to both my twenty something daughters instead. Why waste good money? ( Not my money, I hasten to add).

That's a shame @Ranald. It's nice you've offered it to your daughters. Watching them do it has got to be the next best thing. 😊

Skydiving is dangerous. Especially without long preliminary training and a reserve parachute. If possible, it is better to spend the money in another way.

Walking down the road is dangerous, should we not leave the house?

Which of a pedestrian's clothes can fail on the road and lead to his inevitable death even if there is no traffic on the road?

What does it have to do with clothes?

I was in the Territorial Army for 8 years, and have done plenty of challenging things between the ages of 17 and 25. It's a pity I can't do a tandem jump, but it's no big deal.

There is no point in any further debate on the subject, not unless someone else is doing one?

So is gorge walking, mountaineering, and canoeing in white water rapids. I was young then and would greatly encourage both my daughters to experience the same.

My eldest was an army cadet, and wanted to join the infantry. I dissuaded her, thankfully. Sadly the British infantry is not going to be pleasant for a lassie, she deserves better.

I am very proud that she is most of the way to a good degree, with ambitions to get her PhD, whilst working night-shifts for Tesco.
