Depends on how you use it.

I think if you become too dependant on it then it is very unsociable and time consuming. It annoys me that you can't delete stuff permanently.

Social media is inherently a good thing because it allows us to connect with others and make friends. The problem is it's being leveraged in ways that are corrupting us. We spend so much time using social media that we are entrenched into the idea that it's an essential part of our lives. Children are especially vulnerable to social media due to predators who can manipulate them, but also their mindsets about other people are shaped by social media, and that can lead them to incurring serious mental health issues.

For me, viewing a bit of social media on one chosen app helps me feel connected to the outside world. But overall I would probably say social media is generally bad now. Mostly seems to be a platform for spreading, fear, hate and ignorance. I have very good impulse control so can close it if I feel it starting to have a negative impact, but I appreciate many people don't have that control, and often end up feeling worse when they were trying to feel better.

I am mostly housebound and get sucked into doom scrolling to feel connected and spiral into anxiety so I need to change the way I use it

Personally I only use it now for junk journaling ideas. Or other crafting.and don't use it often.

Over the years, I had accounts on just about every major social media platform, starting with MySpace. As time went on, MySpace gave way to Facebook, then Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Twitch—you name it. But in 2022, I decided to follow in a friend’s footsteps. He had never even signed up for any of them back in the late 2000s, and that inspired me. I deleted every account, just before Elon Musk took over Twitter and turned it into the chaotic platform it is today.

As time passed, I realised I didn’t miss the endless, mindless doom-scrolling. Instead, I found joy in things that actually brought value to my life—like reading or taking long walks. I held on to WhatsApp for a while, but recently deleted that too. My thinking is simple: if someone truly wants to get in touch, they’ll find a way to reach out properly or talk to me directly.

it can be good. if you make friends on facebook they can become family.

also youtube videos are ACE for meditation, self love, law of attraction, confidence. narcissists, getting rid of the blame, shame and guilt and generally lifting you up!

My facebook is filled up with "We think you would like this" there's about 40 or 50 on my feed everyday. As soon as you get rid of one, another one replaces it, I see nothing from my friends at all now and the messaging has stop, apparently they want a pass code which I don't have and haven't set one up.

It's absolute rubbish these days, full of hate, misinformation, and AI generated slop that is designed to cause some form of hate towards a group.

I have to admit, I spend less time scolling my Facebook these day's for the same reason @idk. It's a shame really, as it can be a great way to keep in touch with friends.

Mines full of the "You may like this, why not join". I don't see any friends post's till about 12 or 14 days later, when it's too late to like the post or comment on it.
