Help needed please
Hi me and my partner were migrated over to universal credit. He was previously on esa support group. Now hes on esa contribution based esa plus lcwra on uc. Council tax wont give us any reduction or help so they want the full amount each year, because we are £132 over the threshold for help. My question is if my partner cancels esa now universal credit will put the deduction back onto our universal credit from what he gets off esa but will they put it back onto our payments or will they take it off our transitional protection? So could we end up worse off if he cancels esa? Please any advice as this is making us poorly, we really can't afford to pay full council tax. 😢

I'm not 100% but the deduction should go back onto your payment, and not off the Transitional Protection.
This is because you aren't entitled to more UC which would erode Transitional Protection, you are entitled to the same amount it's just the deduction which will no longer happen.
I would check with a trained benefits advisor

Hi,
As this is just removing a deduction that shouldn't be taken out of your TP. But it would be best to get that properly confirmed first.
