I have a son with disability and he is non verbal. He has PIP certificate and I want to use it to exempt our car from tax. I would like to find out if the car has to be registered in his name.

I'm his appointee so I thought I can register the car in my name since he is non-verbal.

Thank you

    Hi welcome to the community.

The car doesn't have to be registered in your sons name.

    Hi,

The car doesn't have to be registered in his name however it can only be used to benefit the disabled person if changed to disabled tax class.

He doesn't have to be in the car every time, of course buying groceries or picking up prescriptions would be for his benefit, but if the car is regularly used for business or similar then that's something to consider.

Thank you for the clarification OverlyAnxious. I have had to resign from work because of him so the car is for personal use eg. hospital appointments, shopping, social events like church, etc.
