I know someone who went away and had a review because they didn't declare they went away they had their claim suspended.I suppose it all depends on circumstances etc.

It's good to see you @Jane315STARX , not seen you here for a while. I hope you and your family are well.

I personally am not well enough to go on holiday although I'd love to and think we all deserve a break. But it appears they seem to think that if you are too sick/disabled to work then you are unable to manage or navigate travel etc

Yes thanks very much. Its nice to see you back. Take care xx

It says if the travel is for four weeks or more you must report to the dwp. If otherwise then no need, and that is the guidance info you can “hold against them” if they use this reason others mention

I called up u.c on behalf of my friend after they had benefits suspended. They would not talk to me about her individual case but said basically that you should report any time abroad if you are in the no work category ( cant remember abbreviations) or on pip.failure to do so could see a suspension of your benefits or a cease altogether. All cases will be looked at on an individual basis.( which is what I said).I said to him that surely people are allowed to have a holiday. He said its complex and this is why its best to report.I hate everything about this system.

Problem with UC is that you can get sent 'tasks' to do such as reviews etc. If you don't respond to those because you're abroad then they can suspend the claim. If you open your UC account from abroad then they can suspend your claim. So personally I would recommend informing them before you go abroad.
PIP shouldn't matter unless you're expecting review forms imminently. There is no contact from PIP between reviews, which are usually several years apart.

you can use a vpn to open uc account from abroad

Be very careful using a VPN. We have seen issues with claimants using a VPN to access from inside the UK if DWP can't verify the location.

i didnt mean open and claim from abroad i just meant logging in if abroad. My friends has used a vpn for years on his computer in the uk and has been on lcwra theyve never said anything.

Presumably they understand how VPN's work and which ones to use though. If someone reads this and just uses any random VPN that could suggest to the DWP that they are out of the country, which is exactly what we've seen happen before.
